To Shout or Not To Shout: The Digg Dilemma

A little while ago Digg had an update that incorporated a few new features into their site. One of those features was the Shout, which allows you to easily send messages to your friends and share stories from Digg pages.

“Shout is a general purpose microblogging feature in Digg, but keep in mind that despite the protestations of many diggers, the ability to shout a story submission to friends was built-in from the beginning, and therefore it was always intended that a Digg user do so.”

Once sent, the recipient of a shout will find it in their profile page as well as see an indication as to how many shouts that user has received since last visiting their profile page.

There are two ways to use the feature. You can visit someone’s profile and select the “send shout” icon or scroll down to the bottom of their recent activity section and fill in the shout box. The “send shout” button near their icon only takes you to the bottom anyhow.

Social Media Experts Give It All Up

Finally i am settled enough after getting back from New York to put together a little post about my SMX Social Media thoughts and impressions.

SMX Social Media in New York was really an amazing conference. Never have i been to a conference where i felt like there was more back to back real tricks, tips, and information being given by experts that are very active in their field. All the speakers really did a great job.

I even have about 3 pages of notes that i took away from the great sessions to work on.

I spoke on the first day, second session, on Social Media Linkbait. Here is a copy of my slides if you are interested - Brent Csutoras’s Social Media Linkbait Slides .

Unless They’re Wearing Handfuccs, Proofread Your Title

Sometimes, in a rush, you just want to get something out fast without concern for any minor mistakes you might make.

However, when your mistake is in the Title, it can end up becoming the url of the post. The problem is when you go to fix that mistake you can end up losing links and leaving your visitors on a 404 page, unless your smart and you 301 the mistake url to the correct one.

A great example, and the reason i was driven to write this reminder, is the First Coast News article published today. A story about a man who was questioned by police while walking past a courthouse for wearing handcuffs as a fashion statement.

SMX New York: IMNY and BOTW Event

As i mentioned in my previous post i am going to be at SMX in New York next week. I would like to take a second and personally invite anyone who will be in the New York area on October 15, 2007, the Monday night before SMX to attend the IMNY Charity Event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

We are lucky to be in an industry that has really blown up and it is very seldom that we are actually asked to give back for anything. Additionally with the Internet Marketers of New York and BOTW sponsoring the event it is absolutely going to be one hell of a party you wont want to miss.

The great thing about the charity we’re supporting is that it hits close to home within our industry. Both Marty (aimClear) and Danielle Winfield have recently blogged about their experiences with Leukemia and Lymphoma. Marty actually won the fight with Lymphoma, awesome.

Everyone at the conference you want to network with will be there so make it the first part of your SMX New York experience. If your an internet marketer but not attending SMX stop on by anyhow. It is for a good cause and you will definitely enjoy the party.

I really hope to see you all there. Here are the details for those who can make it:

$40 Donation to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Monday, October 15, 2007
7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Town Tavern Bar & Grill 134 W. 3rd Street and 6th Ave. (Google Map)
All Internet Marketers Are Welcome!
