There has been a mess of April Fools jokes going around the web but none had fooled me until I ran across Digg’s. I actually thought my browser was having a javascript issue when these weird symbols showed up where the number of Diggs used to be.
Digg added in a quick joke with their latest downtime to make the Digg vote buttons display one of 8 different symbols instead of the actual Digg vote count, which is normally shows.
Pretty interesting and yeah it fooled me for a second, but the problem is that the new addition has caused Digg to lag and crawl to a snail’s pace. It now takes forever to navigate through the site and load pages. It was so bad that I actually rebooted my computer and reset my modem thinking it might have been my connection.
Alas Digg.com, it would appear that you have gone and fooled yourself.
I’ve been doing errands this morning and just saw this. It got me too for a sec. Nice post Brent!
Diggers seemed to like it though 🙂 http://digg.com/tech_news/Digg_s_April_Fool_s_Day_Joke
Apart from the infinity symbol, none of that icons realy makes sense. If would have been much funnier if they had for example replaced 2 by root 4 or 25 with 5^2, etc.
I saw these to … but I didn’t pay attention to them. I agree to you that digg was way to slow.
Anyway … the idea is great 😀
I find that too geeky for my taste haha, but im sure the majority liked it 🙂
That has to be one of biggest backfires from all of this year’s dumb April Foolery. Seems like April 1st is christmas for linkbaiters and now the SEO world will have to go through a few days of sifting all the jokes out of the real stories on sphinn/digg et al.
Still even this digg thing wasn’t as annoying as Matt Cutts multiple “I’m not doing any April Fool’s jokes but I did get a Firefox tattoo/toast my iPhone/gosh I’m just so wacky” joke posts.
Epic fail.
I haven’t seen this one…I haven’t been logged on to Digg for almost a month now..probably because I find the some of the submissions there as senseless..^^..Anyways nice post Brent!..^^
You should get rid of that annoying full page pop-up ad. It interrupted my reading, so I quit and commented here. Thanks for ruining a perfectly good article.
FYI.. I do not run any ads at all…
