When building a new profile on Digg, do not immediately add friends, especially power users.
When you add someone on Digg, they are notified that they have a new fan. People tend to have a lot of fans and power users literally thousands.
That means you have only one shot to friend someone and have them friend you back before you become lost in the mix and never seen again.
If your account show little or no activity, or history, people are likely to skip adding you as a friend.
So instead of jumping right into the act of friending, spend some time digging, commenting, and submitting a few good stories.
*Bonus Tip:
If you already made the above mistake, then unfriend the people who did not add you and add them again when your account is a little more mature.
Actually, I wouldn’t bother trying to submit a story for the first 30 days. It’s not going to go anywhere, so you’re just wasting your time looking for content to submit. Instead, spend the first thirty days digging the submissions of 20 targeted top diggers. They’ll notice. Put together a mashup of the rss feeds of the people you want to follow for complete efficiency.
But don’t friend them. Target people where there are ways to contact them off site, such as twitter. Start a relationship. After a while you’ll have built up a list of people you can go to for Diggs when you need them. Build up a strong offsite list and you can move any story, regardless of what account is used to submit it.
