Google uses an indented result as when it finds multiple results from the same website, the most relevant result is listed first, with other relevant pages from that site indented below it. At least most of the time.
On occasion, I do a few vanity searches on keywords I want to rank for. I was searching “Social Media Consulting” on Google today, and noticed something odd with my result. Google gave me an indented result… from a different site.
I blogged recently about the new search box feature Google introduced and maybe in the process they broke something. Of course this could be just a random error, but refreshed numerous times and got the same result.
If I find out why it is occurring or any further updates I will edit this post.
Did a search for “Social Media Consulting” and you come up on top with no indents below (Los Angeles area). Looks good from here.
You don’t have an indented result in Hawaii either. (Top of page 2)
hmm, that’s odd. I had the same problem before also, so you aren’t the only one. I reported the issue to google. lets see if they get back to me.
That is really odd indeed. I wish I could get a intended result like that on a nice search phrase 🙂
Does that actually generate leads for you Brent? I used to rank for SEO Specialist and got nothing out of it.
Indeed strange. I have seen it before with my own search reslults. It is a convert error. but it gives more attention.
That’s weird. So, in this case the other website has two listings??
